Rockwell Lecture
January 20th, 5pm-7pm

Don't miss the lecture by Mr. Tom Daly at Edison community College. Mr. Daly will present images by Norman Rockwell along with the stroies behind his great works of art. Immediately following the lecture will be a presentation of awards to sixth grade Piqua School Children that won the art and writing contests.

“All Things Rockwell”

“All Things Rockwell” is a unique opportunity for the Piqua Arts Council to engage the entire community in the arts by education and exposure to Norman Rockwell. In efforts to reach as many Piqua and regional individuals as possible, the PAC is collaborating with the Piqua City and Piqua Catholic Schools, Edison Community College, the Dayton Art Institute, the Norman Rockwell Museum in Stockbridge, MA., and area senior and church groups. The bulk of activities are being planned for the month of January.

Norman Rockwell, best known for his “Saturday Evening Post” magazine covers depicting life in small town America, will be featured in a traveling exhibit that comes to the Dayton Art Institute from November 12, 2011 to February 5, 2012. The large-scale exhibition, entitled “American Chronicles: The Art of Norman Rockwell”  chronicles Rockwell’s life and includes paintings, drawings and studies that span 56 years and explores the impact of Rockwell’s images on American culture.

The Piqua Arts Council has developed programs to support the exhibit at the Dayton Art Institute and provide access to the arts for the Piqua community.

Student Events

Thanks to the Piqua Community Foundation, Hartzell Norris Trust and Honda of America Foundation, sixth grade students in both Piqua City Schools and Piqua Catholic Schools will participate in a creative writing contest, create their own “Saturday Evening Post” covers, see Rockwell originals and meet the curator of the Norman Rockwell Museum!

Community Events

Of course we are encouraging all of Piqua to see the Exhibit first hand, but you can also see collected memorabilia at Edison Community College and the PAC Gallery starting in December and at the Piqua Public Library in January!

Also, Thomas Daly, curator of the Norman Rockwell Museum in Stockbridge, has agreed to visit Piqua in January to address several schools about Norman Rockwell in addition to speaking at a public evening reception co-hosted by the PAC and Edison Community College that will be open to the public on January 20th.
